Leaders are Readers: How Reading 30 Minutes per Day of a Self-Help Book Can Change Your Life
Leaders are Readers
Harry Truman once said, “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.” Reading a good book that focuses on personal development and growth for 30 minutes each day will unlock your mind to its full potential. After all, what you put into your mind will come out. Just like what you eat will be reflected on the outside. Junk in –> Junk out. Greatness in –> Greatness out.
We live in a world of instant gratification. We are overstimulated with video games, television, and movies. Social media has become the preferred way to communicate rather than speaking with one another. While I agree that many of these modern conveniences are good, they can also be detrimental. Video games, television, and movies are filled with violence and negative suggestions. Social media has turned into another way for people to complain and harass one-another. As a result of these negative messages we keep putting into our minds, we have become limited thinkers. We limit our belief that we can go farther, do more, or be more successful.
In addition, many of the things we read – the newspaper, trash novels, etc. – place negativity into our minds. Is it any wonder that we live in a world where people are miserable and depressed all of the time. The problem is that we don’t read the right things.
Truman’s “leaders are readers” quote should be a quote that all of us should take to heart. The best way to shift our paradigm from that of negativity and self-doubt to one of optimism and confidence is to read 30 minutes of a self-improvement book every day.
Just two months ago, I began my journey of changing my mindset. Prior to this my mind was filled with limiting beliefs and self-doubt about myself. Now after two months of reading a self-help book for just 30 minutes per day, I can tell you that I am noticing a change. I am calmer, happier, and more confident. More importantly, I am becoming the leader I was meant to be.
Truman definitely hit the nail on the head when he said, leaders are readers. So here is my challenge to you if you feel that this won’t help. Just try reading a self-help book for 30 minutes a day for the next 90 days and see for yourself. I bet you will begin to change your mindset and become the leader you were meant to become.
